Energy Minister Victor Parlicov participates today at the Ministerial Meeting on Energy Connectivity in Central and South-East Europe (CESEC) in Athens, Greece. Meeting participants noted that the region has undergone radical energy transformations in recent years.

Efforts to strengthen natural gas interconnections and good cooperation between the countries of the region have enabled the rapid diversification of gas sources and, moreover, have created the conditions for the region to become a viable alternative to Gazprom in ensuring the security of Europe's gas supply through the "vertical corridor".

On the electricity dimension, the synchronization of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova with the continental grid, ENTSO-E, was achieved in record time. Similarly, interconnectivity and cooperation between countries, the integration of the entire region into a single EU energy market, as well as the implementation of the greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme (ETS) are the basis for increasing renewable energy production.

At the opening session, both the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, and the Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski, mentioned the exemplary progress of the Republic of Moldova in the energy field.

Minister Victor Parlicov thanked the European Union, Romania and other development partners for their support and gave assurances that Moldova will maintain the pace of development both in terms of the construction of energy interconnections and integration into the EU energy market. This integration means not only security, but also long-term welfare for the citizens of Moldova.
