The last pillar of the Vulcănești – Chișinău power line, also called the Energy Independence Line, was installed on the evening of November 18, marking progress toward the completion of construction works. The announcement was made by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu at the Moldova Security Forum, currently taking place in Chișinău.
Currently, the installation of the last kilometer of conductor is still in progress, while at the Chișinău 330 kV Electric Station, the installation of primary equipment is being finalized, registering overall progress of approximately 78%. At the Vulcănești 400 kV Electric Station, expansion works have reached 58% — the metal framework has been completed, and the installation of primary equipment is about to begin.
After construction works are completed, both the line and the new infrastructure will undergo thorough inspections and tests before being connected to the network. Subsequently, a gradual energization will take place, lasting up to 60 days, during which the operational behavior of the line will be monitored in real time. Once all parameters are validated, the line will be put into operation.
During the panel on energy security at MSF, the minister outlined the government’s priorities in this field. In addition to constructing new interconnections, these priorities include building new local natural gas generation capacities, promoting renewable energy sources and energy storage systems. Another priority is launching the balancing and system market to absorb imbalances and maintain frequency.
