The Ministry of Energy has secured financing for the construction of the Balti-Suceava Overhead Power Line, after a loan agreement was signed by the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, Victor Parlicov and the EBRD Director in Moldova, Catarina Bjorlin Hansen.

 

The new 400 kV overhead power transmission line will be built between the municipality of Balti in the Republic of Moldova and the municipality of Suceava in Romania. The project will also include the reconstruction of the 400 kV substation in Balti.

 

At the same time, part of the funding will also be earmarked for the rehabilitation of certain segments of the transmission networks in the Republic of Moldova by replacing switching and protection elements as well as transformers in power substations.

 

The project consists of the construction of the line itself, with a total length of 142 km, of which 49 km on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, a 400 kV line cell in the Suceava substation and a 400/330kV Balti system substation in the Republic of Moldova, next to the existing Balti substation. The financing of the agreement will also provide for the rehabilitation of some segments of the electricity networks in the Republic of Moldova, including the replacement of switching and protection elements.
