Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu Participated in the Meeting of the EU–Republic of Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee

Today, the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, took part in the proceedings of the EU–Republic of Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee (PAC RM–EU). The meeting was opened by the Committee Co-Chairs, Mr. Marcel Spatari and Mr. Siegfried Mureșan, bringing together representatives of the Government and Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, as well as senior officials of the European Parliament.
During the panel titled “Republic of Moldova’s Accession Negotiations with the European Union”, Minister Dorin Junghietu presented the current stage of drafting the Negotiating Position for Chapter 15 “Energy,” part of Cluster 4 – the Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity, as well as progress on updating the National Accession Programme 2026–2029.
“According to the European Commission’s Report published on 4 November 2025, the Republic of Moldova has achieved remarkable progress in the energy sector. These advances include full alignment with the Electricity Market Integration Package, the adoption of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), and the development of an action plan providing for the organization of auctions for renewable energy and storage capacities,” stated Minister Junghietu.
The Minister emphasized that the Negotiating Position for Chapter 15 “Energy” and the update of the 2026–2029 National Accession Programme reflect the Republic of Moldova’s firm commitment to fully aligning with the European acquis. He presented the developments acknowledged by the European Commission, including the modernization of the strategic framework, preparations for auctions for renewable energy projects, the development of storage capacities, and the strengthening of energy governance.
Furthermore, the Minister outlined the structure and detailed content of the Negotiating Position, the requests for transition periods, and the phased implementation approach, highlighting the essential objective: achieving full compliance with European standards. Strategic priorities mentioned include advanced energy efficiency, expansion of renewable energy, coupling Moldova’s markets with EU markets, and finalizing cross-border electricity infrastructure.
Minister Junghietu also reported on the procedural status of the documents, which have already been approved and submitted to the European Commission, as well as on the progress made in updating the National Accession Programme, which will concretely guide the modernization of the energy sector in the coming years.
The Negotiating Position and the National Accession Programme together form a coherent, ambitious, and realistic agenda focused on:
– strengthening energy security;
– integrating Moldova’s markets with those of the European Union;
– developing renewable energy and storage infrastructure;
– reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency;
– modernizing energy systems and protecting consumers;
– achieving full compliance with European standards prior to accession.
Despite regional challenges, the Republic of Moldova continues to make firm progress toward modernizing the energy sector, and the support of international partners remains essential. “We are committed to continuing reforms with transparency, professionalism, and responsibility,” concluded Minister Dorin Junghietu.
