Cooperation in the fields of gas, electricity, decarbonization and encouraging investment and bilateral trade relations were the topics of the discussion between Energy Minister Victor Parlicov and Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantinos Fragogiannis.

The Greek official, who was in Chisinau on the occasion of the meeting of the Moldovan-Greek intergovernmental commission, expressed his full support for Moldova's European aspirations and his admiration for the courage and decisions of the Chisinau authorities in the context of the Russian aggression in Ukraine. "It is not only Europe that deserves you, the Republic of Moldova, but you deserve Europe to stand by your side. So you have our full support," Fragogiannis said.

The parties discussed cooperation between state-owned enterprises Energocom and DEPA, including in the field of gas procurement for Moldova's needs, as well as transportation and storage in underground storage in Ukraine to ensure EU energy security.
The opportunities for cooperation in decarbonizing the economy and renewable energy communities were also discussed, with Greece having the experience of ensuring full renewable energy consumption on some islands. With a population of 1400, they attract over 200 thousand tourists annually, with all services, including transportation, powered by renewable energy.

"The Republic of Moldova is interested in learning from Greece's experience in the field of decarbonization, including green hydrogen production. For us, the biggest potential lies in energy efficiency measures in buildings and the greening of transport, which account for about 50 and 35% of energy consumption respectively. We are also looking forward to the launch of the Alexandroupolis Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal, a significant project for the energy security of South-Eastern Europe and the Balkans," said Victor Parlicov.
