Hydrogen project development opportunities discussed at hydrogen conference

The Ministry of Energy is considering opportunities to develop hydrogen projects. As the European Hydrogen Strategy indicates, this fuel is a possible replacement for natural gas in a post-2035 horizon.
Romania and Ukraine have ambitions to develop hydrogen production capacities that are reflected in national hydrogen plans, and the Republic of Moldova has included this compartment in the Energy Strategy 2050 and the National Energy and Climate Plan with a focus on its potential role as a transit country, said the state secretary in charge of decarbonization, Carolina Novac, at a conference dedicated to this topic organized by the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Moldova.
Hydrogen is seen as an alternative for the development of certain segments of industry, such as in transportation (e.g. freight, rail, etc.), or the storage of surplus renewable energy in the form of hydrogen and its use as a main fuel for energy-intensive industries. Or it can just transit through the Republic of Moldova. "When we talk about decarbonization we talk about real opportunities in our economy, technological innovations for our country, new jobs. All European strategies foresee that in a horizon after 2035 gas will be used in a smaller component. That is why we must also look to the future and see how we can anchor ourselves regionally in everything that means regional technological innovation, how we can benefit jointly with Romania and Ukraine from European funding," added Carolina Novac.
