A pilot project for the inclusion of specific teaching materials related to energy and environment in the school curriculum for students in grades I-XII, was launched at the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Environment and the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, implemented by UNDP Moldova in the framework of the program "Addressing the Impact of the Energy Crisis in the Republic of Moldova", with the financial support of the Delegation of the European Union.

According to Cristina Pereteatcu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy education is the key to building a sustainable future, therefore, it is essential to educate children early on about these issues in order to form a set of values and knowledge that will help them make informed and responsible decisions in the future.

"Currently, 84 teaching products, guides and lesson plans are being developed, divided into primary, secondary and high school levels. Through them, students will learn both theoretically and practically how to use renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and other aspects of protecting the environment. In the meantime, we also plan to make cartoons for children about energy and climate. We want to educate generations that are aware of the challenges in the energy sector and environmental issues, and promote a sustainable lifestyle," said Cristina Pereteatcu.

The Secretary of State announced that between March and May, a teacher skills training course in these important areas will be carried out. This course will also be implemented as a pilot project in several schools across the country.

According to UNDP Representative in Moldova, Veronica Herța, children are often the most receptive to new ideas and change, and they can be the ones who will influence our behavior and attitudes towards the environment.

By introducing specific educational materials into the school curriculum, the Ministry of Energy wants to promote energy education and awareness of the impact of energy consumption on the environment.
