A Moldovan company assembles modules for charging electric cars and buses in Straseni. Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov and State Secretary Cristina Pereteatcu visited the company to learn about cooperation opportunities.

Black Sea - EMS, established in 2014 by the Dutch company Power Research Electronics, assembles electric power modules for industrial use and for charging electric vehicles of various powers from 12.5 kW to 30 kW. Minister Victor Parlicov welcomed the company's initiative to assemble in the Republic of Moldova high-value products, especially in the context of policies of electrification of transportation.

"Automotive fuels account for about one third of Moldova's energy balance and electrification of transportation is a priority for the Ministry of Energy. Developing the necessary electric vehicle charging infrastructure will be an extra motivation for drivers to switch to an eco car. No less important is the fact that Moldova exports HiTech products, thus creating jobs and added value", emphasized the Energy Minister. The electrification of transport, both individual and public, will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change, Victor Parlicov pointed out.

At the same time, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Cristina Pereteatcu, told the company representatives about the Sandbox bill, which provides a flexible legal framework for research and development, contributing to the optimization of electricity storage and distribution, as well as to the promotion of renewable energy in the Republic of Moldova.

"We have drafted a Sandbox bill, which will be approved by the Parliament in the coming days. It is a special regulatory regime that allows businesses to experiment with new innovative products, services and business models that cannot work within the currently existing regulatory framework, while remaining under the supervision of a regulator and keeping the focus on consumer protection," said Cristina Pereteatcu.

Operations Manager of Black Sea - EMS, Iulian Sirbu, noted that up to four thousand electrical power supply modules are assembled annually, all of which are exported to European Union countries, especially the UK.

"Business processes are designed on site, as are critical and final control points. There are around 40 employees, trained on the job, working at four workstations. The electric power modules allow two cars to be charged at the same time. In the case of cars they charge for 15 minutes, while a bus needs 60 minutes," said Iulian Sirbu.
