The development priorities of the energy sector, discussed by Minister Victor Parlicov with development partners

The progress and development priorities of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova were discussed today by the Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, with representatives of international partners, within the Sectoral Council in the field of external assistance for the energy sector. The meeting was attended by representatives of 20 embassies, development cooperation agencies, international financial institutions and other partners who support the sustainable development of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova.

 

During the meeting, Minister Parlicov emphasized the importance of close collaboration with international partners to achieve the objectives of energy security and green transition. Victor Parlicov emphasized the need to continue investing in renewable energy, modernizing the energy transport infrastructure and increasing the energy efficiency of buildings.

 

"The Republic of Moldova is going through a crucial period of reforms in the energy sector, in the context of the European Union accession process. Collaboration with international partners is essential for the implementation of infrastructure and sustainable energy projects, which will ensure long-term energy security and contribute to reducing carbon emissions", declared Victor Parlicov.

 

Victor Parlicov highlighted some of the significant achievements in the energy sector, including the approval of the Law on the regulation of innovations in the energy sector, which paves the way for the use of innovative technologies through "sandboxes". Another major success is the establishment of renewable energy communities, with the first pilot projects under implementation Recently approved legislation includes the Regulation on the energy performance of buildings and the Regulation on the certification of energy assessors and ventilation and air conditioning systems.

 

The Minister also referred to ongoing projects, which include the STEEM Program, which aims at the energy rehabilitation of 46 educational buildings and the installation of 250 individual thermal points (PTI). Another strategic project is the first tender for the construction of wind and photovoltaic power plants in Moldova, with a capacity of 165 MW, which will contribute to increasing the share of green energy.

 

During the discussions, Minister Victor Parlicov also emphasized the future priorities of the Ministry of Energy, which include the completion and approval of the National Energy and Climate Plan, which will guide the country's energy transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon economy. In addition, the ministry will prioritize the increase of natural gas storage capacities, through the implementation of approved regulations and the creation of strategic stocks, thus ensuring the security of supply during the winter. The list of priorities also includes the modernization and expansion of electricity transmission networks through the development of cross-border interconnections with Romania and Ukraine, including the 400 kV Balti-Suceava interconnection line and the modernization of the 330 kV station in Balti.

 

Victor Parlicov expressed his appreciation for the constant support given by donors and reaffirmed his commitment to continue the necessary reforms to achieve the goals of energy independence and sustainability.
