The Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, carried out a working visit to the Sîngerei district, where he met with several photovoltaic panel owners, department heads, and employees of the Sîngerei District Council. During the discussions, the Minister presented the current priorities of the Ministry of Energy, emphasizing the need to strengthen energy security both locally and nationally.

One of the topics addressed was the thermal insulation of public institutions, aiming to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs. Currently, over 50% of final energy consumption is attributed to the building sector, and heating one square meter costs twice as much as in European Union countries.

The Minister also spoke about promoting renewable energy sources, especially solar energy, by supporting communities and local initiatives.

“In April, 36% of Moldova’s total electricity consumption was covered by locally produced renewable sources. This performance is an absolute record and a significant increase compared to March, when the share of local green energy was around 23%,” Dorin Junghietu emphasized.

The Minister also visited the Sîngerei District Hospital, where an 84 kW photovoltaic system was installed on the roof. The project was implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Since 2023, electricity consumption costs have significantly decreased.

“Thanks to the 168 photovoltaic panels, the Sîngerei district hospital has greatly reduced its expenses. The electricity generated from green sources powers equipment in the intensive care unit, where energy consumption is highest. About one-third of total consumption is covered by the solar panels, and due to the thermal insulation of the walls, gas consumption has dropped by 12%,” said the hospital director, Vitalie Tabarcea.

Another location visited by the Minister was the gymnasium in the village of Iezărenii Vechi. In March 2025, thermal insulation works began as part of the second edition of the National “European Village” Program. For this project, the Iezărenii Vechi mayor’s office received funding of approximately 5 million lei, supplemented by a 15% contribution from the local public administration.

Minister Junghietu also visited an entrepreneur from the village of Rădoaia, who in 2024 built the district’s first photovoltaic park. The electricity generated by the panels installed in this park could supply around 330 households. The total investment amounts to €740,000, of which more than half — about 9 million lei (over €400,000) — was accessed as a loan through the government’s “373” program, managed by the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development.
