Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu met today with Nick Pietrowicz, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the United States of America in the Republic of Moldova.

Minister Junghietu presented the main developments in Moldova’s energy sector since 2022, when the Russian invasion of Ukraine directly affected the country’s energy security. The official emphasized efforts to diversify energy sources, integrate into the European energy market, and strengthen sector resilience.

A central point of the discussions focused on the support provided by the United States in recent years, particularly through USAID programs, including MESA, which substantially contributed to stabilizing and modernizing the national energy system. In the context of the conclusion of the USAID program, the two officials explored new opportunities for collaboration, with an emphasis on strategic projects such as the development of energy storage systems (BESS) and the construction of the Strășeni–Gutinaș power line.

“Republic of Moldova has taken significant steps toward strengthening energy security and advancing the green transition. We are grateful for the United States’ ongoing support and look forward to continuing this collaboration through strategic projects that enhance the resilience of the energy sector,” said Minister Dorin Junghietu.

The minister also highlighted that renewable energy recently reached a record level in Moldova, marking a significant milestone for the country’s national green transition goals.

Nick Pietrowicz confirmed that the United States continues to explore opportunities to support projects aimed at strengthening the resilience and development of Moldova’s energy sector.
