The Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, participated today in the official inauguration of the modernized workshop at the Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics in Chișinău. The major reconstruction of the workshop, valued at over 24 million lei, was funded by the European Union with support from the Ministry of Education.
The event was attended by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Galina Rusu.
The workshop includes a laboratory where young specialists can study the process of installing photovoltaic panels. Future professionals noted that, thanks to the equipment available to them, they will be able to grasp the material more easily and, later, integrate quickly into the workforce.
Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu mentioned that the draft Energy Strategy up to 2050 was recently presented, which foresees that 90% of national energy consumption will be covered by domestic renewable resources. Thus, the contribution of future specialists is essential.
“Investments in education and technical infrastructure form the foundation for training the specialists needed by the energy sector. Moldova requires well-prepared professionals to manage the energy transition, integrate renewable sources, and digitalize the sector. Human resource development is as important a priority as investments in networks and technologies,” said Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu.
In recent years, the Center has benefited from significant investments. With support from the European Union, renovation and modernization works were carried out in the study block, valued at 36 million lei, and 24 million lei were allocated to equip the workshop with modern tools.
“This joint contribution represents a strategic investment in technical education and is of great importance. It provides modern conditions for practical activities and facilitates the training of students in strategic fields such as energy, communications, and metrology—sectors essential for the sustainable development of the country,” noted the Director of the Center, Mariana Bârlădean.
Additionally, the institution invested three million lei from its own funds to renovate and fully furnish the second floor of Dormitory No. 3 at the Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics. The dormitory now provides 76 beds for students.
Interest in the programs offered by the Center continues to grow. While over 560 students were admitted five years ago, in the 2025–2026 academic year, the number has reached nearly 700. Currently, the institution hosts approximately 2,000 students.
