Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu conducted a working visit today to the Chișinău Electric Substation, part of the strategic project to construct the 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău Overhead Power Line. During the visit, the minister inspected the progress of the substation modernization works and met with representatives of the company contracted to carry out the works.

The minister emphasized the urgent need to accelerate work at the Chișinău and Vulcănești substations, as the commissioning of the line is scheduled for May. Dorin Junghietu also stressed the importance of continuing daily reporting on the progress of works for each construction site within the project, noting that he will personally monitor their development.

“It is essential that the remaining works, especially those at the substations, are accelerated so that we can meet the scheduled commissioning date for the line. With the improvement of weather conditions, the work can be sped up, and the field teams must make efforts to recover any delays,” the minister said.

Currently, work continues at the Chișinău and Vulcănești substations. At the Chișinău Substation, progress exceeds 80%. Major equipment has already been installed, and foundations for the container housing the protection equipment have been completed. In the coming period, the container will be installed, after which the protection cabinets, already assembled, will be mounted. In parallel, busbar conductor installation is underway.

At the Vulcănești Substation, the degree of completion exceeds 70%. Disconnectors and circuit breakers have already been installed, while the measuring transformers are in the process of delivery and will be mounted in the near future.

It should be noted that construction works for the power line itself were fully completed ahead of schedule in November. Subsequently, in January, line testing was carried out, including under difficult weather conditions.

The Vulcănești–Chișinău Overhead Power Line, with a length of 157 km, includes approximately 500 towers and about 1,500 km of conductors across the three phases, creating a strategic link between the southern and central regions of the country.

The project crosses eight districts and 35 localities and is implemented under the Power System Development Project, financed by the World Bank Group. The total value is €61 million, of which approximately €27 million is allocated for the construction of the line.
