The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, ENTSO-E, has announced an increase of the capacity limit for electricity trade from Continental Europe to Ukraine and Moldova by 500 MW to 1,700 MW. The decision was taken following the completion of the synchronization process of power systems and based on system security and stability simulations.
"ENTSO-E welcomes the new level of cooperation between continental European TSOs and Ukrenergo. This development not only enhances regional energy security but also promotes a more integrated and efficient energy market. It also underlines our continued efforts to ensure a resilient and integrated electricity grid and to foster cooperation between European TSOs," said ENTSO-E President Zbyněk Boldiš.
The emergency synchronization of the energy systems of Ukraine and Moldova with the continental one was achieved on March 16, 2022.
"The synchronization of the national energy system with the continental one, ENTSO-E, was in fact the event that contributed the most to strengthening Moldova's energy independence, not the diversification of sources of natural gas supply. It allowed us to ensure system stability when Russia bombed Ukraine's energy infrastructure and to move forward with other major reforms, including those with long-term impact," says Energy Minister Victor Parlicov.
ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, is the association for the cooperation of European Transmission System Operators (TSOs). The 39 member TSOs, representing 35 countries, are responsible for the secure and coordinated operation of Europe's electricity system, the largest interconnected electricity grid in the world.
