Images from the Worksite of the Vulcănești-Chișinău Overhead Power Line: Progress Update
The construction works for the Vulcănești-Chișinău 400 kV Overhead Power Line (OHL) are in full swing, even during the winter season. Currently, workers are on-site, engaged in the assembly and installation of pylons in the UTA Gagauzia and Taraclia segments.
It is worth mentioning that the works are being carried out according to the work plan developed by the contractor and approved by the responsible institutions, reflecting best practices in the field. Progress includes approximately 190 foundations and around 30 assembled pylons, with the construction site spanning a distance of about 65 km.
Additionally, as part of the Power System Development Project, foundation works are underway for the autotransformer, distribution substation equipment, and metal portals at the Chișinău Substation, managed by Moldelectrica State Enterprise.
The modernization of the Chișinău 330 kV Substation, along with the expansion of the Vulcănești 400 kV Substation, will enable the connection of the Vulcănești-Chișinău 400 kV Overhead Power Line to the energy infrastructure in the southern and central regions of the country, including Chișinău municipality. This connection is crucial for the direct transport of energy flows to the largest electricity consumption hub in the country.
The overall project implementation progress is approximately 49%, considering several critical activities and stages that must be ensured, including those prior to on-site construction. These include aerial topography, the development, verification, and approval of the technical project, soil testing, equipment and materials testing, resistance testing for various types of foundations and pylons, equipment and material deliveries, landowner compensation, and many other essential processes for the project's successful implementation.
As previously announced, it is emphasized that the construction of the 400 kV Overhead Power Line from Vulcănești to Chișinău will be completed by the end of 2025.
The works are part of the Power System Development Project and align with the Moldovan Government's priority measures aimed at ensuring the country's energy security. The project is financed by the World Bank Group.
