Ion Andronic has been appointed as Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova since 1 September 2026. He has more than 10 years of experience in the energy sector, with a particular focus on the regulation and management of the electricity sector.
As Head of the Electricity Division within the Ministry of Energy, he coordinated the development and implementation of public policies in the electricity sector, electricity market reforms, measures to ensure security of electricity supply, and the transposition of the Energy Community’s Electricity Integration Package, with a view to aligning the national framework with the European Union acquis and preparing for electricity market coupling.
He has also applied his professional experience through participation in the governing and supervisory bodies of strategic energy entities, including the Board of Directors of the State Enterprise Moldelectrica, Moldova’s electricity transmission system operator, as well as the governing or supervisory bodies of RED-Nord JSC, CET-Nord JSC and Energocom JSC.
Throughout his professional career, he has held positions as an adviser and head of unit within the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the National Agency for Energy Regulation and the State Energy Inspectorate, contributing to the development of policies and the regulatory framework, as well as to authorisation, regulation and technical supervision activities in the energy sector.
He began his professional career in the private sector, working for national companies, where he gained practical experience in the design and installation of electrical installations and networks. This experience provided him with a practical understanding of the operation of energy infrastructure and the technical challenges facing the sector.
An electrical power engineer by training, he holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in energy engineering, as well as two additional Master’s degrees: one in administrative sciences, public policy and public services, and another in public finance and taxation. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Energy Systems and Technologies at the Technical University of Moldova.
His professional training includes international programmes and courses organised by the World Bank, the Centre of Excellence in Finance in Slovenia, the University of Latvia, the Energy Community Secretariat, the Council of European Energy Regulators and the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence.
He speaks four languages: Romanian, his native language; English and Russian at an advanced level; and Ukrainian at an intermediate level.
