The Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, held a meeting with the mission of the International Monetary Fund, led by Alina Iancu. The mission is in Chișinău from 4–17 December 2025 to hold discussions as part of the consultations provided for under Article IV of the IMF’s Articles of Agreement.

The main objective of the IMF experts is to analyze recent economic developments, assess macroeconomic prospects and risks, and discuss policy priorities with the authorities and other key stakeholders.

The parties discussed in detail developments in the energy sector and potential risks in the context of the cold season and the war in Ukraine, addressing both the security of energy supplies and the reforms implemented in the sector.

The Minister of Energy provided a comprehensive overview of the winter preparedness measures, natural gas purchases through forward contracts and the creation of strategic reserves, the structure of electricity imports and consumption, as well as grid balancing activities. Other topics included the development of the electricity market, the integration of renewable energy, and the construction of energy storage systems.
