Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu visited the Chișinău Electric Substation, where construction works are in full swing on the foundations and steel structures for the 400 kV and 330 kV equipment. At the same time, the final stage of concreting the foundation for the autotransformer is underway.

In this context, work crews have also begun installing the first primary equipment — the 400 kV and 330 kV disconnectors.

“Despite the unfavorable weather conditions over the past few weeks, the works at the Chișinău Electric Substation are progressing steadily. This project reflects our determination to strengthen the energy security of the Republic of Moldova. We are getting closer to completing the Vulcănești–Chișinău Line — a strategic objective for our energy independence,” stated Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the line — the Vulcănești Electric Substation — design works are well underway. Preparatory works for setting up the construction site have begun, and starting this June, full-scale construction will commence.

Regarding the construction of the Vulcănești–Chișinău Energy Independence Line, Ruslan Surugiu, Director of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), reported that workers have reached Hîncești district on one side and the outskirts of Vulcănești on the other. Thus, the construction site now stretches over a distance of more than 130 km in both directions: toward Vulcănești and toward Chișinău.

To date, a total of 177 towers have been assembled, and 384 foundations have been completed. Currently, around 200 workers are involved in the construction, and the contracted company is planning to bring in additional teams in the near future.

This project is being implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, through the Ministry of Energy and UCIPE, with support from the World Bank. The project beneficiary is Moldelectrica, along with Moldova’s energy consumers.
