The State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Cristina Pereteatcu, is attending the ninth edition of the annual Three Seas Initiative (3SM) Summit in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, which brings together 13 countries located between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas - Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Romania, Greece and Bulgaria.
At the meeting, participants will discuss how the Initiative needs to develop and adapt to the complex regional context while boosting investments and implementing strategic interconnection projects in the three core areas of the Initiative - transport, energy, digitalization.

The tragic events in Ukraine have made the Republic of Moldova face the harsh realities of energy uncertainty and vulnerability. The interconnection of energy systems with Romania and Ukraine is essential for Moldova's security and prosperity, and the development of green hydrogen production also represents decisive steps in this direction.
By participating in I3M, Moldova has the opportunity to strengthen its energy independence and diversify its sources of supply.
At the Summit, Moldova presented three energy interconnection projects with Ukraine and Romania, which will have a major regional impact and are proposed for financing and implementation through the instruments available under I3M.

These projects are related to the improvement of regional interconnections, such as the construction of the second circuit of the 330 kV overhead high-voltage line "Balti - Dnestrovsk Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP)", the construction of a high-voltage interconnection "Yuzhnoukrainsk - Prymorsk - Vulcanesti - Isaccea Nuclear Power Plant" (UA-MD-RO); increasing the interconnection capacity of the vertical corridor on the Trans-Balkan gas route and developing projects dedicated to the production of green hydrogen using renewable energy sources.
Implementation of these projects will strengthen energy security, ensure sustainable development and reduce environmental impact in the Central and Eastern European region.
As a reminder, the Republic of Moldova became an associate participating state of the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) in September 2023.
