The potential of using agricultural raw and waste materials for biogas production was presented today at the Workshop "Harnessing bioenergy in the agricultural sector and administrative-territorial units in Moldova", organized by the German Energy Agency (DENA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, within the project "Energy Sector Transformation in Moldova".

Discussions focused on efficient plant operation models and planning, as well as nutrient cycles associated with biogas plants and securing feedstock supply.

The objective of the workshop is to provide support to organizations interested in implementing bioenergy in the agricultural and local context by making the most of this potential, while at the same time identifying and addressing existing challenges and obstacles.

The workshop presented the costs of bioenergy valorization on the case of the pig farm in Cimiseni, Porco Bello, which also built a biogas plant, the construction and operational aspects of biogas plant operation, the legal framework for the operation of biogas plants and recommendations for short rotation biomass production for local consumption and the example of Feștelița locality in this regard.

Panel discussions addressed the support needs for biogas producers and expectations from the government.

"By 2030 we aim to have 27% share of renewable energy in final energy consumption. This means new technologies, sector development and less energy dependency. The government, at the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, has allocated a capacity quota for biogas of 65 MW. We already have more than 15 MW installed in the country," said State Secretary Carolina Novac.

The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova has officially addressed ANRE with arguments on the need to increase the fixed tariff for electricity produced from biogas.
