Energy-related products marketed in the Republic of Moldova will have to comply with European standards on eco-design requirements. A decision to this effect was approved today by the Government, at the proposal of the Ministry of Energy.

The new regulations cover a wide range of products, including light sources, household appliances, electronic devices and heating systems. The requirements introduced aim to optimize energy consumption, increase product durability and provide clear information to consumers, so that they can choose energy-efficient and environmentally friendly equipment.

The main goal of this project is to contribute to reducing energy consumption in the household sector, responsible for a large part of the total energy consumption in the country. By implementing these standards, it is proposed to achieve the annual energy saving target of approximately 0.8% per year by 2030. The regulations will also contribute to significant energy savings and support citizens in reducing energy consumption costs in households.

The State Inspectorate for Supervision of Non-Food Products and Consumer Protection will monitor the compliance of regulated products to ensure that all products placed on the market comply with the new environmental and energy efficiency requirements.

The project was developed with the support of the European Union, through the "Addressing the Impact of the Energy Crisis in the Republic of Moldova" program, implemented by UNDP, and its promotion was carried out with the support of Expertise France, part of the AFD Group, through the "Moldovan Green Transition Technical Assistance Facility" project.
