Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, visited the Chișinău Electrical Substation, where construction works for the 330 kV and 400 kV equipment foundations for the power autotransformer are in full swing. Additionally, the foundation works for the 400 kV equipment are in their final execution stage. At the same time, approximately 80% of the primary equipment necessary for the modernization of the substation has already been delivered to the Republic of Moldova, including the 630 MVA autotransformer, high-voltage circuit breakers, and disconnectors at 330 kV and 400 kV.
In this context, Dorin Junghietu emphasized the need for the contractor’s workforce to be mobilized and strengthened to complete the works as soon as possible:
"The construction works necessary for the installation of the equipment are progressing visibly; however, we will request the contractor, along with all involved parties, to make additional efforts to ensure that the works are completed as soon as possible," stated the Minister of Energy.
During the discussions, the Director of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), Ruslan Surugiu, briefed the official on the progress made and the work plan for the upcoming period, noting that necessary measures are being taken and the contractor's work schedule is being strictly monitored to ensure the completion of the works within the proposed timeframe.
The General Director of Moldelectrica, Sergiu Aparatu, highlighted the importance of the new installations in facilitating the operation of the power system, enabling the supply of electricity to the Chișinău energy hub.
It is worth mentioning that the Chișinău Electrical Substation will be modernized by expanding the existing 330 kV installation with a new 400 kV bay for the Vulcănești-Chișinău Overhead Power Line (OHL) and installing a 400/330 kV autotransformer.
The modernization of the Chișinău Substation, along with the expansion of the Vulcănești 400 kV Electrical Substation, will enable the connection of the Vulcănești–Chișinău 400 kV OHL to the power infrastructure in the southern and central regions of the country, including Chișinău municipality. This is essential for the direct transmission of electricity flows to the largest energy consumption hub in the country.
The company contracted to carry out the works is the consortium of Siemens Energy SRL, Electromontaj S.A., and Energotech S.A. from Romania.
This project is being implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, through the Ministry of Energy and UCIPE, with the support of the World Bank. The project beneficiary is Moldelectrica and energy consumers.
