The State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Cristina Pereteatcu, is attending the 11th edition of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD), an important event dedicated to the energy transition and the promotion of the green economy.

The event was organized by the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), the German Solar Association (BSW), the German Energy Agency (DENA), and Eclareon GmbH. The main topics discussed included securing financing for the energy transition, international partnerships, and strategies for achieving global climate goals, including the gradual phase-out of fossil fuels.

On the sidelines of the event, Cristina Pereteatcu met with the Lithuanian Minister of Energy, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas. During their discussions, they exchanged views on best practices and solutions in the field of cybersecurity to protect critical infrastructure in the context of the digitalization of the energy sector. They also discussed Lithuania's experience in smart metering, where the country has made significant progress. The parties explored potential joint energy efficiency projects, including in public buildings.

“The experience gained by Lithuanian authorities in the digitalization of the energy sector and the implementation of smart meters would be valuable for the Republic of Moldova. It is essential to modernize our energy infrastructure to improve efficiency and reduce energy losses,” Cristina Pereteatcu added.

During discussions with Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister for Digitalization and Innovation, Ilyas Bakytzhan, Cristina Pereteatcu presented the progress made in implementing the Sandbox Mechanism to stimulate innovation in Moldova's energy sector. The mechanism, approved by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, is an innovative regulatory framework that allows for testing energy solutions in a controlled environment.

“The Sandbox Mechanism is a crucial initiative for developing innovative solutions in the energy sector. In a context where almost all the energy consumed in the Republic of Moldova is imported, developing local solutions is essential for increasing energy independence and attracting investment,” stated Cristina Pereteatcu.

The State Secretary reiterated that the Sandbox Mechanism, the first of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, will support the testing and implementation of innovative solutions to contribute to the modernization of Moldova's national energy sector. It is worth mentioning that the Sandbox Mechanism benefits from the support of UNDP Moldova and international partners such as Denmark, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Sweden.

Another important topic discussed was the Digital Transformation Strategy for Moldova's energy sector, which is set to be launched soon. This strategy aims to modernize energy infrastructure, implement smart meters, and strengthen cybersecurity, with the goal of aligning Moldova's energy sector with European standards.
