Cristina Pereteatcu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, participated in the discussion panel at the ECOSOC 2026 Partnerships Forum: “Strengthening the Digital–Energy Nexus: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Data for Transformative Innovation in Sustainable Energy Systems”, organized within the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) 2026 Partnerships Forum.

The event, organized in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), aimed to explore how digital technologies, data systems, and artificial intelligence can accelerate a just energy transition, enhance climate resilience, and unlock innovative financing. The discussions highlighted transformative, equitable, and coordinated approaches that leverage innovation to advance the 2030 Agenda.

With a special focus on Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, the session examined how the energy–digital nexus can optimize existing infrastructure and enable systemic change. During the discussions, it was noted that AI-based forecasting and data-driven planning could reduce energy transmission congestion by 15–20%, improve the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid by approximately 25%, and lower operational costs by up to USD 10 billion annually through better demand–supply balancing and predictive maintenance.

The session explored the entire energy system value chain, from data generation and modeling to policy development, investment mobilization, and project implementation, demonstrating how digital innovation strengthens each stage of this process.

In her intervention, State Secretary Cristina Pereteatcu emphasized the strategic importance of digitalization for the Republic of Moldova and highlighted the progress made in this area.

"For the Republic of Moldova, the convergence of energy and digitalization is no longer a future aspiration—it is a strategic necessity. Moldova must fully leverage data, digital platforms, and smart systems to ensure supply security, price accessibility, and alignment with the European energy market," the State Secretary stated.

She also noted that Moldova has adopted a National Program for the Digital Transformation of the Energy Sector for 2026–2030, which places data, interoperability, and cybersecurity at the center of the reform, and emphasized the role of international partnerships in ensuring a just and inclusive energy transition.
