Green Award 2025: Green Innovation Leaders Recognized for Their Contributions to Moldova’s Energy Future

Carolina Novac, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, attended the Green Award 2025 ceremony, organized as part of the second edition of the Green Future Conference in Chisinau. The event brought together leaders from the public sector, business and international organizations to discuss innovative and effective solutions to the challenges of sustainability, climate change and the transition to a green economy.
In her speech, Carolina Novac emphasized the importance of partnerships and investments in green solutions for the energy future of the Republic of Moldova.
“Today we see how innovation and social responsibility contribute to an efficient and sustainable transition to a green economy. It is essential to continue to encourage partnerships between the public and private sectors to ensure a cleaner and more energy-efficient future.”
The Green Award 2025 recognized and rewarded initiatives that had a significant impact in seven categories: biodiversity projects, E-mobility, education campaigns, ambassador leadership, sustainable agriculture, green financing and water consumption management.
Carolina Novac presented awards for two categories:
Excellence in the circular economy
- S.A. Lafarge Ciment (Moldova) – The project to substitute traditional raw materials with alternative sources, such as waste and by-products from other industries, led to the saving of over 50,000 tons of raw materials and the reduction of carbon emissions by 18 kg per ton of cement.
- Moldrec Group S.R.L. – The company implemented innovative solutions in waste processing, collaborating with over 10 recycling plants worldwide and managing over 250 types of waste throughout the country.
Excellence in combining green practices
- Î.M. Efes Moldova S.A. – Through an investment of over 600,000 euros in 13 projects, the company reduced its water, electricity and gas consumption. Replacing the gas forklift fleet with electric ones and installing a biogas recovery system led to a reduction in its carbon footprint by 578 tons.
- Monicol S.R.L. – Investments in green energy and water management technologies led to a significant reduction in energy consumption and pollution. The installed photovoltaic system generated 340 MWh of green energy and offset 136 metric tons of CO₂ annually.
The Secretary of State thanked all participants for their involvement and contributions in support of the transition to a green economy, underlining the value of this competition for the Republic of Moldova.
"The 2025 Green Award demonstrates how innovation, social responsibility and investments in green solutions can transform the energy sector and support the achievement of national sustainability goals. These initiatives represent important steps in building a cleaner, more efficient and more equitable future for all citizens," added Carolina Novac.
The 2025 Green Award competition was organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham Moldova) and recognizes companies, environmental organizations, individuals and startups that have distinguished themselves through initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, implement sustainable practices and support the transition to a green economy.
