Carolina Novac, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, recently participated in the Green and Just Transition Summit, a major event that brought together experts and leaders in energy and climate change to discuss the green and fair transition. The summit was dedicated to promoting sustainable and inclusive solutions in the energy sector, aiming to ensure a transition that is both ecologically sustainable and socially just.
"Moldova has made significant progress in reducing dependence on Russian energy and promoting the transition to renewable sources. However, we continue to face vulnerabilities. The government is implementing concrete measures to ensure real energy independence and to integrate more renewable energy into the energy mix, while also supporting vulnerable groups through decentralized energy solutions. For example, the Household Appliance Voucher Program, implemented by CNED and the Ministry of Energy as part of the E4M project, helps vulnerable households replace old appliances with new, energy-efficient ones. The program covers up to 70% of the cost of new appliances, contributing to reducing energy consumption, costs, carbon emissions, and protecting the environment," Carolina Novac stated at the event.
Discussions also addressed the issue of energy poverty in rural communities and how the green transition can be made more inclusive. The Ministry of Energy is working on solutions to support vulnerable groups, encouraging domestic production of renewable energy and developing decentralized energy solutions. These measures are intended to ensure access to renewable energy for all citizens, especially those in marginalized areas.
Another important topic discussed was the involvement of civil society organizations and local communities in the energy transition. Carolina Novac emphasized that these groups play a crucial role in promoting decentralized energy solutions, which not only help democratize access to renewable energy but also contribute to the economic and social development of communities. Close collaboration between local authorities, civil society organizations, and the private sector is vital for the successful implementation of renewable energy projects.
Additionally, Novac talked about the steps taken by the government to support investments in energy infrastructure, including tenders for renewable energy capacity and funding measures for energy efficiency. The government is also promoting initiatives to train professionals in renewable energy, aiming to create new green jobs and support the development of this emerging sector.
By participating in the Green and Just Transition Summit, Moldova reaffirms its commitment to actively contributing to the global transition towards a greener and more sustainable future, placing particular emphasis on equity, inclusion, and adaptability in the implementation of energy policies.
