May 1, 2025, Athens – During his visit to Athens, Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu held several high-level meetings with officials and representatives of strategically important companies in the Greek energy sector.

In this context, Minister Junghietu had discussions with Greece’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Nikos Tsafos, the leadership of DESFA – the Greek natural gas transmission system operator – Georgios Stassis, CEO of the Public Power Corporation (PPC), and Kostis Sifnaios, CEO of Gastrade, a company specializing in the development and operation of modern natural gas infrastructure.

In his meeting with Maria Rita Galli, CEO of DESFA, the parties discussed ongoing projects aimed at improving interconnection between natural gas systems, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Vertical Corridor. They agreed to intensify cooperation to strengthen this regional initiative. Minister Junghietu reiterated the essential role of the Vertical Corridor for Moldova’s energy security and stressed the need for a unified and transparent tariff along the entire corridor route.

During his discussions with Kostis Sifnaios, CEO of Gastrade, the shared interest in diversifying sources of natural gas supply in the region was highlighted, especially in the context of current energy challenges.

In talks with Georgios Stassis, CEO of PPC – Greece’s largest energy utility company – Minister Junghietu presented recent energy sector reforms in the Republic of Moldova, encouraging Greek companies to participate in tenders for large eligible producer status and to seize investment opportunities on the local market.

The meeting with Deputy Minister of Energy Nikos Tsafos also provided an opportunity to review developments in the energy markets of both countries, focusing on regional risks and challenges in the natural gas and electricity sectors.

It is worth recalling that during April 29–30, 2025, Minister Dorin Junghietu participated in the 9th edition of the Balkan Energy Summit, organized by Net Zero Circle, which brought together leaders and experts from the region’s energy sector to discuss energy transition and supply security.
