Energocom SA, the state's strategic energy company, marks a historic milestone with the signing of its first long-term procurement contract with OMV Petrom, one of the leading energy companies in the region.
Under this agreement, Energocom SA will purchase natural gas from the strategic Neptun Deep project once it becomes operational, expected after 2027. This is the largest natural gas project in the Black Sea and Romania’s first deepwater offshore project. Neptun Deep has estimated reserves of approximately 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which will help position Romania as the largest natural gas producer in the European Union.
Deliveries will be made at the virtual trading point (VTP) in Romania, ensuring a stable flow of natural gas for the Republic of Moldova.
"After Russia reduced gas deliveries to the Republic of Moldova in 2021, Energocom proved it could import liquefied natural gas from across the ocean. Now it is securing supplies from the largest offshore project in the Black Sea, which will begin extraction in the near future. Through this long-term contract, we will contribute to diversifying supply sources and thus to the country’s energy security,” said Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu.
In 2024, Energocom covered 83.72% of the total natural gas consumption in the Republic of Moldova.
