The Government has recently approved the Indicative Schedule and Action Plan for organizing auctions to grant the status of large eligible producer during the 2025–2026 period. The document was developed by the Ministry of Energy and outlines the stages, timelines, and institutional responsibilities for implementing this process.
The next round of auctions for the construction of renewable energy power plants aims to attract investments in the renewable energy sector and energy storage solutions, contributing to the fulfillment of the Government’s strategic commitments in the field of energy transition.
The schedule ensures predictability and transparency, providing both local and international investors with the necessary information to participate under optimal conditions in the auction procedures.
According to the approved schedule, a new round of auctions is planned for October 2025, targeting projects for the construction of wind power plants with a total estimated capacity of up to 173 MW, as well as the integration of energy storage solutions with a minimum capacity of 44 MWh.
This auction represents a first for the Republic of Moldova, by including the energy storage component, with the goal of increasing the flexibility and reliability of the national energy system and improving the electricity generation curve.
The preparation of auction documentation and consultations with the business sector are scheduled for the July–October 2025 period. The submission of bids is expected between January and March 2026, while the evaluation and selection of winners is planned for June 2026.
The Ministry of Energy is responsible for coordinating and implementing the Action Plan for the second auction and is required to report quarterly to the Government on the progress made.
In carrying out these activities, the Ministry is receiving technical assistance from the Energy Community Secretariat and support from a team of consultants funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
