The Concept of the Digital Transformation Program for the Energy Sector for the years 2025–2030 was discussed today with representatives from the private sector. This public policy document was developed with the support of UNDP Moldova and funded by the Government of Italy.
The meeting was chaired by the State Secretary, Cristina Pereteatcu, and was attended by representatives of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
According to State Secretary Cristina Pereteatcu, digitalization is a strategic priority for the Republic of Moldova in the context of European integration and the challenges related to energy security, operational efficiency, and the resilience of critical infrastructure elements.
“The energy sector is currently facing an underdeveloped, vulnerable, fragmented, and outdated digital infrastructure, which limits its ability to modernize and adapt to current requirements. With this concept, we aim to develop the energy sector, considering that by 2050 we plan to achieve 100% digitalization of the sector, which implies major changes. We want to invest in innovations—solutions that have been rigorously tested in developed countries. The entire energy mix that will reach our market can only be managed through digital solutions,” said Cristina Pereteatcu.
Pereteatcu emphasized that the program aims to reduce risks and strengthen the technical capacities of energy networks. In this process, digitalization becomes the central tool for real-time monitoring, operational flow optimization, and ensuring an efficient response—contributing to the creation of a more flexible and predictable energy system.
In partnership with UNDP Moldova and with funding from the Government of Italy, the Ministry of Energy launched a pilot smart metering program in 2023, which is already contributing to the development of a more efficient and resilient energy infrastructure. This initiative serves as a foundation for expanding digital systems throughout the entire energy value chain.
