Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu paid a working visit today to the main objectives of the 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău Overhead Power Line (OHL) project, including the Vulcănești and Chișinău substations, to assess the stage of its implementation.

The works are progressing at a steady pace, being carried out simultaneously from both ends of the route. From the south, teams have reached the Vulcănești Substation, while from the center, in Ialoveni district, they are nearing the Chișinău Substation. Currently, conductor stringing works are underway — a key technological stage in the construction process.

So far, more than 475 foundations for pylons have been completed along the line’s route, representing over 93% of the total required. Approximately 395 pylons have been assembled, of which more than 330 have already been erected on site. In addition, over 35 kilometers of electrical conductors have been strung, representing about 22% of the total line length of 157 km.

The minister’s visit concluded at the Chișinău Substation, where high-performance equipment is being installed. Most of the construction and earthworks are nearly complete, preparing the facility for the integration of the new line into the national grid.

The Minister of Energy emphasized the importance of this project for the country’s energy security, stating:

“The Vulcănești–Chișinău line will ensure a strong and lasting connection with the European network, increasing the energy independence of the Republic of Moldova and reducing the risks of power supply interruptions.”

The 157 km Vulcănești–Chișinău OHL will include over 500 pylons and 1,500 km of conductors across the three phases, creating a strategic link between the south and the center of the country. The project crosses eight districts and 35 localities and is being implemented within the framework of the Power System Development Project, financed by the World Bank Group. The total project value is €61 million, of which about €27 million is allocated to the construction of the line.
